Do you feel on edge and can't calm yourself because of some trauma in your life or past?  Do you feel as though you can't move forward in life or live fully in the present?

There are many options out there to help those suffering from trauma, and on this week's episode of the Weekend Wellness Hour Show, we discussed brainspotting as one of those methods with therapist Kirsten Powell.

Kirsten shared her background in the mental health field, starting with a Master's degree in social work and then progressing to learn more techniques that connect the brain and mind with the body.  She studied Dr. David Grand's work that began in EMDR treatment and then moved into brainspotting, which pairs well with Kirsten's narrative style of therapy.

We discussed what brainspotting is and how we often use gaze spotting in our daily lives to allow our brain to process something while we have a fixed gaze on an object.  Kirsten shared how she uses a wand to help people move through different eye positions to determine the body's response in connection to emotional events.

Kirsten explained how the client is in charge of the experience and leads the session through his or her experiences and story.   As the therapist, Kirsten supports the client and helps them find a safe space in their body to process the trauma.

We explored what a session looks like, the recovery from a session and how progression through this process is made. Kirsten uses brain spotting both in person and virtually to help those needing to become unstuck.

Kirsten has over 18 years of work in behavioral health and is also certified in Compassionate Bereavement Care and Integrated Mental Health Care.  She has her own practice called The Well Rooted Life in Arizona.

Please join us to learn how brainspotting can help you along in your mental health journey!

Have you ever felt “off” like you needed to detox your body? What if I told you that a juice or food detox isn’t really a detox but eating a special type of clay is truly a detox?

We explored this topic of eating clay with this week's episode of the Weekend Wellness Hour Show with author and owner of Detox Dirt, Ran Knishinshky. Ran shared with us his journey into the clay-eating world when he had a ganglion cyst that he didn’t want to have cut out or injected. He chose to eat clay instead which resolved the cyst!

We discussed what happens when the body eats a substance like clay and how that truly detoxes the body by absorbing and adsorbing toxins. Ran explained how this process helps the body to return to better health.

He shared that you can’t eat just any clay out of the ground. There are many types and it’s critical that you get a pharmaceutical-grade clay from a reputable source that has been cleaned so that it’s appropriate for consumption.

We discussed the special clay, montmorillonite, that he uses on a daily basis and how he eats, or rather, drinks it. He gave the dosage and went through how much you can take as well as if there are side effects.

Ran also shared some insight into his book, The Clay Cure, and the new release that will be coming out in 2022 with updates.  He is a wealth of knowledge on this topic and shared even more in the interview!

Ran has been eating clay daily for more than 30 years. He has worked in both the naturopathic and allopathic medicine industries, first as the owner of a homeopathic dispensary and later as a consultant and marketing executive in the hospital and pharmaceutical sectors. He holds an MBA from Arizona State University and is the developer of the edible clay product, Detox Dirt. He is the author of Prickly Pear Cactus Medicine and The Prozac Alternative.

Have you ever wondered what shows up in your blood that could lead to an autoimmune disease or disorder?  What are health practitioners are looking at when they order bloodwork?  How do they know what treatment protocol to use next?

These are some questions we addressed in this week's episode of the Weekend Wellness Hour Show with Board Certified Holistic Nutritionist, Anthony DiNoble.  Anthony shared his background of transitioning from the tech world into studying the science of bloodwork to help those looking to reverse autoimmune diseases.

We briefly discussed the typical bloodwork, (CBC's, lipid panel, thyroid panel) ordered by a primary care physician, and how a certified holistic nutritionist looks at additional blood panels that examine nutrient deficiencies or the presence of microbes. Anthony even touched on a few common nutrient deficiencies and how they show up in the body.

Anthony also explained why doing a functional blood chemistry analysis matters to someone who feels bloated, gassy, uncomfortable after eating or even to someone who presents with an autoimmune diagnosis.

He also stressed the importance of the mind and gut connection.  This led to the discussion of the concept of epigenetics and using our lifestyle and nutrition to help us express genes differently so that we don't blame genetics and give up.

Anthony is the Director of Wellness at Nourish.  His training includes being a Board Certified Holistic Nutritionist ®, Certified Functional Blood Chemistry Analyst, Certified Nutritional Microscopist, Medical Marijuana Specialist, Certified Personal Trainer, and a Pastry Chef.
